We did a quick study of maps last week and my 8 year old enjoyed it. Although, GPS has taken over these days, I still think learning to read a map is an essential skill that everyone should know how to do. It’s even better if you make it fun!!
We used the Scholastic Standards-Based Map Activities workbook which can be found HERE.
This book is an awesome hands on workbook that has tools for students to learn about the
- Compass Rose
- Map Grid Activities
- Landforms Skill Practice
- Key and Legend Activities
- Scale Activities
- Treasure Island Adventure Project
My 8 year old and I attempted to draw a map of our neighborhood, haha, that was fun.
